Discover the craft of traditional letterpress printing as you create your own poster using our historic presses and beautiful wood type.

Choose the words you'd like to print—whether that's a favourite quotation, a few lines of poetry, a memorable lyric, or something entirely your own. For the best results, we recommend keeping your text to around 12 words or fewer.

The printing workshop

Our experienced tutors will guide you through every stage of the process. You'll learn how to hand-set type, space and lock up your composition, ink the press, and pull your own prints. With small class sizes and plenty of one-to-one support, the session can be shaped around your interests, experience, and creative ambitions.

The workshop includes a full introduction to the studio, health and safety guidance, all materials, and the use of an apron. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting a little inky.

Your prints will need time to dry and won't be ready to take home on the day. You're welcome to collect them from St Bride Foundation at a later date, or we can post them to you for an additional £10. This can be arranged when booking or on the day of the workshop.

Tutor: Mick Clayton

Group Workshops

We also offer private group sessions — ideal for team‑building or learning a new skill with friends. Email learning@sbf.org.uk for details.

Booking & Payment

Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place on a workshop. Workshop places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved without payment.

Refund Policy

Workshop tickets are non-refundable. Refunds will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and at the sole discretion of St Bride Foundation. Supporting documentation may be requested.

Rescheduling

If you are unable to attend your booked workshop, we may be able to transfer your booking to an alternative date for the same workshop. Requests to reschedule must be made in writing at least 14 days before the workshop date. Rescheduling is subject to availability and can only be offered where a suitable future date is available. Requests received less than 14 days before the workshop date will not normally be eligible for transfer.
