The Grand Duke

Written by: W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan
Directed by:Vicky Simon
Presented by: Grosvenor Light Opera Company

This acting troupe is starting a coup. If they don't get caught first.

GLOC are delighted to present their sparkling new production of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Grand Duke. Featuring a typically topsy-turvy plot involving duels decided by the draw of a card, roulette, multiple marriages, and sausage rolls!

GLOC have been presenting high quality productions of Gilbert and Sullivan since 1949 and are one of the few remaining performing them in central London, fully costumed with a live orchestra. With a cast of 40 it’s a perfect opportunity to hear this lesser known Victorian gem.

This production is the world premiere of a brand new critical edition of the score by Colin Jagger.

The Grand Duke – the final collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan – follows an acting company in the German town of Pfennig-Halbpfennig who are secretly plotting to overthrow their tyranical Grand Duke. It all goes awry when Ludwig – the comic – lets slip details of the plot to the Grand Duke’s detective!

What will become of Ludwig when he confronts the Grand Duke? Will the actors escape with their heads? And what does this all have to do with sausage rolls!?
