Still Here
Presented by: Unique Community Charity
Part of the Camden Fringe Festival
Displaced and yearning for home, they find themselves trapped in a waiting room, haunted by echoes of war. Seeking purpose, Max wants to help but struggles to understand. Perhaps this isn't even his story, but theirs: families stripped of their freedom, seeking escape from circumstances not of their choosing.
The adults struggle to adapt, their lives irrevocably changed. The children strive to escape confinement to build a new world, a reminder that even in darkness, the hope for a better future endures. Sitting between two cultures, perhaps it is only the children that will be able to help Max finally understand.
And so, dear audience, we invite you to go on a journey with our Max, together with whom we will learn what empathy really is. Because there’s a little bit of Max in all of us.
Still Here explores the meaning of freedom – the freedom to cross borders, both real and imagined especially when it goes beyond our comfort. It challenges us to examine how we use our own freedom when so many are denied it, and reminds us that this is just one waiting room, one story among countless others – stories that continue, and will continue, to unfold.
