Eye magazine hosts another of its popular Type Tuesday evening events, this time exploring the world of design for music. We are looking forward to welcoming Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell, whose studio designed album covers for Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin, 10cc, XTC, Peter Gabriel and many more.
Po will be talking about music design and the new, full length documentary film Squaring the Circle, directed by Anton Corbjin, which tells the story of Hipgnosis and its designers, illustrators and photographers, including George Hardie and Jill Furmanovsky.
The evening will also feature a talk by designer Christopher Wilson (Oberphones), whose Eye 104 article ‘Heavy Rotation’ examines the Album Cover Albums series of books originally edited by Roger Dean and Hipgnosis co-founder Storm Thorgerson. Chris is known to Eye readers for articles such as ‘The look of Lolita’ and his book Richard Hollis Designs for the Whitechapel – acclaimed as ‘one of the best books on graphic design ever’ by Pentagram partner Michael Bierut.
There will be a bar and a stall at which you can buy bargain back issues of Eye plus the latest edition – Eye 104.
All proceeds go to support St Bride Foundation.
Ticket is non-refundable, however you are welcome to offer your ticket to another person. Please contact [email protected] to change the name of your booking at least 7 days prior to the event date.
The next Type Tuesday events will be on 24 October (with Rick Poynor and Sara De Bondt) and 28 November with Joby Carter.
