Type Tuesday: Books that rock!

Band logos and New York reportage

Tuesday 26th November 2024 7-9.30pm

St Bride Foundation, Bridewell Hall

Eye Magazine's final Type Tuesday of 2024 introduces Jim K Davies and Jamie Ellul who will talk about their book Logo Rhythm and Lucinda Rogers who will discuss New York Winter 1988 and her latest reportage about the US elections for The Guardian.

Logo Rhythm by Writer Jim K Davies and designer Jamie Ellul (Supple Studio) is a comprehensive overview of some of the most well-known and loved band logos from the last 50 years. The book features iconic names such as David Bowie, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pulp, The Ramones and many, many more. It delves into the stories behind the logos to reveal some fascinating insights (for example, the Stones ‘Lick’ logo wasn’t inspired by Mick Jagger’s lips, but the Hindu deity Kali.) The book has two forewords by Tom Robinson (representing muscians) and Malcolm Garrett(representing designers). Copies are now available to buy from Circa press here.

Reportage artist Lucinda Rogers will talk about her book New York Winter 1988 and her latest work for the New York Times and The Guardian covering the US elections. Lucinda works from life in the tradition of the artist as reporter. She records straight to paper which gives her drawings a particular spontaneity. She also works as an illustrator working internationally with top newspapers and magazines.
