Join Gemma O’Brien at St Bride Foundation in London for a talk tracing her creative journey – from a letterpress studio to the global stage. What began as a love of typography grew into a career spanning commercial lettering, large-scale murals, and international talks. In this session, she’ll share behind-the-scenes process insights, live calligraphy and drawing, and how returning to original tools helped her reclaim her eyes, brain, and attention. The talk is informed by her recent studies in neuroaesthetics and celebrates the enduring power of craft and the human hand.
Gemma O’Brien is an internationally renowned designer and artist known for her bold graphics, illustrative lettering and murals. Her work has been commissioned by Apple, Nike, Google, and is held in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. Outside her commercial design work, she explores language, nature and the human experience through her art practice. In 2025, she is conducting research on flow states in visual artists at Goldsmiths, University of London, as part of the MSc program in Neuroaesthetics.
