Prints by Louise Hayward RE

Louise’s prints depict the urban spaces and built environment of London with some of her work focusing on the city’s post-war housing estates. Frequently reviled and negatively associated with social decay, the design, structure and sculptural qualities of these geometric structures often have a powerful presence and add character to the more ‘ordinary’ neighbourhoods where most people live.

Louise uses traditional wood engraving tools to create the fine marks and textures that create her images, with the engraved blocks sometimes combined with linocut. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (RE) based at Bankside Gallery and was elected to membership of the Society of Wood Engravers (SWE) in 2009. Louise has been SWE Chair since 2022.

Louise has exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Her prints are held in public collections including the V&A, British Museum, Ashmolean Museum, the Royal Collection and the Heilongjiang Museum of Printmaking, China.
