Maria Callas. The Black Pearl

Music by: Claudio Di Meo.
Presented by: Federica Nardacci

On 16 September 1977, Maria Callas died in her Paris apartment aged 54. Her name went down in history as one of the greatest singers of all time. But who was this fascinating and extraordinary artist? This spoken monologue performed by Marco Gambino and accompanied by Claudio Di Meo on the piano is the inner journey of Ferruccio Mezzadri, Callas’s trusted butler, who lived and worked by her side for more than 20 years until her death.

Silence. When Butler Ferruccio Mezzadri embarks on his journey between dream and reality, memories and flashbacks, he reflects on the silence around him. With Callas' death, a long chapter of his own life has ended. He leaves an incredible world behind him, glamorous and painful, where fame, success and sufferance go hand in hand. For one last time he relives his extraordinary experience with the Diva Maria Callas: her voice, her soul, her silence, as rare and precious as a Black Pearl.
