London Prints – Southwark to Nine Elms
PLEASE NOTE: Any galleries or exhibitions in the bar area are by appointment ONLY. Be sure to contact the venue ahead of any visit to ensure someone can show you the space.
James Cowan’s exhibition of drypoint and digital prints in the Bridewell Theatre Bar shows how London’s Southbank has dramatically changed over recent years, and how these buildings are making their mark on the London skyline.
The drypoint technique exploits the richness of the printmaking process and makes a statement about these buildings and their environment.
James Cowan studied at Chelsea School of Art and went on to teach painting and printmaking at Brooklands College in Surrey. As well as being an exam moderator for Edexcel he was also a course leader at the Open College of the Arts.
As an artist he exhibits paintings and prints widely. He also makes videos that feature his work that can be viewed on YouTube and Vimeo. His subject matter is sourced from cities, the built environment and the countryside and reflects his response to those different environments. Often working in series, stylistic changes reflect the subject matter, mood and atmosphere. Recent paintings have been inspired by New York, St Petersburg and London, while recent videos have used work from St Ives and Scotland.
