Join Annie Atkins, renowned graphic artist for films such as The Grand Budapest Hotel and Indiana Jones, as she launches her first children’s book Letters from the North Pole. Written by Atkins and illustrated by Fia Tobing, this Christmas picture book features pull-out props from Santa’s workshop designed using the same principles that Annie uses in her film work: everything has to be ready for its close-up. Annie will talk the audience through her process in designing these pieces and writing in character, with comparisons to her work in the film industry and some behind-the-scenes footage.

Annie Atkins is best known for her work as a graphic artist in the film industry, having designed for many Oscar-nominated-and-winning movies, such as Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, and French Dispatch, as well as Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies and West Side Story, and classic children’s films such as the latest Chicken Run and Indiana Jones movies. Her first book, Fake Love Letters, Forged Telegrams, and Prison Escape Maps (Phaidon 2020), prompted Jeff Goldblum to write that “Annie makes the unreal seem hyperreal, and the real more supremely alive and utterly magical”. Her next book, Letters from the North Pole, is a children’s picture book and will be published by Magic Cat in October 2024.

Our letterpress workshop will be open from 6–7pm before the talk, where you will be able to print a keepsake created specially for the event.

Copies of Letters from the North Pole will be available to purchase at the event, or you can pre-order your copy HERE
