Digitisation Project Launch

Pre-1830s Type Specimens

27 September 18:30 - 20:30, speeches from 19:20

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of our first digitised collection of pre-1831 type specimens.

Enjoy a glass of wine, good company and the opportunity to view both the physical and digitised type specimens, as well as printing keepsakes in our atmospheric workshop.

We will hear from internationally renowned typographer Paul Barnes about our unique type specimen collection. St Bride Library and Louis Porter, Digitisation Photographer at the Postal Museum, will outline the project and introduce our new typographical treasure trove.

No booking necessary.

We are excited to launch our first digitised collection, sharing our early type specimens with a global audience online. Our type specimen collection is one of the largest and most significant in the world. This newly digitised section of the collection spans from 1616-1830, representing the leading foundries of the time including Caslon, Figgins, Thorowgood and Didot.

This digitisation project has been carried out thanks to the generous donations of our St Bride at 125 crowdfund supporters.
