A–Z of Eye

Simon Esterson and John L. Walters, Eye, the international review of graphic design

Art director Simon Esterson and editor John L. Walters will articulate some freewheeling insights into the thinking, planning, writing, editing, designing, cake-eating and tea-drinking that lie behind what they modestly call ‘the world’s most beautiful and collectable graphic design journal’.

Eye is an award-winning, independent magazine about design and visual culture, published for professional designers, students and anyone interested in critical, informed writing about graphic design and visual culture worldwide. Simon and John bought the magazine from its previous owners in 2008, so this year marks the tenth anniversary of Eye’s independence. You can access much of Eye’s extensive archive at http://eyemagazine.com

• Learn why Simon Esterson changes the typefaces for each issue – with one exception.

• Hear why – despite an in-box bulging with 10,000 unopened emails – John Walters is still looking for new design journalists to write for the magazine.

• Discover more about the fabulously talented team behind the mag, including business manager Janet South – who will cheerfully sell you bargain back issues of Eye in the interval – assistant editor Sarah Snaith, art editor Holly Catford and designer Leo Field . . .

. . . not to mention the hundreds of writers, researchers, translators, illustrators, designers, graphic artists, photographers, subeditors, proof-readers, typographers, type designers, editorial assistants, repro people, printers, fans, distributors, shopkeepers, cheerleaders and tea-makers who make each issue of Eye possible.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to the St Bride Library.
