Type Tuesday: From Apfel to normcore
Tuesday 26 November 2019
Bridewell Hall
7-9.30pm
Kirsty Carter and Emma Thomas (Apfel), Melanie Mues and Elizabeth Glickfeld talk about type and identity design.
Eye magazine’s next Type Tuesday features four individuals with something to say and show on the subject. All four speakers feature in Eye 99, the latest issue.
Kirsty Carter and Emma Thomas of Apfel (A Practice for Everyday Life) talk about their studio, their clients, the importance of type in their designs for cultural projects and their plans for a new type foundry.
Melanie Mues will present her identity for this year’s Venice Biennale Arte, centred around the ominous phrase ‘May You Live in Interesting Times’.
Writer Elizabeth Glickfeld will give a short talk about luxury fashion’s current love affair with typography, blandness and logomania, the topics discussed in her Eye 99 article ‘Normcore inferno’.
This is the last Type Tuesday of the year. There will be a free drink on arrival, a stall selling Eye 99 plus a selection of bargain back issues, and the evening will conclude with a panel discussion about type, typography and identity design.
Tickets are £12.50, £10 (members) and £8 (students).
